Join us for a focused Introduction to Lapidary Weekend Intensive, a hands-on workshop designed to give you a strong foundation in cutting and polishing your own stones.
Over the course of the weekend, you’ll learn how to select appropriate materials, understand mineral properties, practice proper studio safety, and maintain lapidary equipment so you feel confident working independently. This class combines clear demonstrations with guided, hands-on practice, allowing you to build both technical skill and practical understanding.
You’ll gain experience working through a range of materials, including:
Cutting soft stones
Cutting medium stones
Cutting hard stones
Cutting turquoise
By working with stones of varying hardness, you’ll understand how material affects shaping, grinding, sanding, and polishing techniques. The goal is to leave not just with finished stones, but with the knowledge to continue cutting on your own.

Techniques we will cover:
• Material selection and evaluation
• Safe and proper use of lapidary equipment
• Shaping and grinding techniques
• Progressive sanding and polishing
• Equipment care and maintenance
What to expect:
• All tools, materials, and safety equipment are provided
• The workshop includes demonstrations followed by guided hands-on practice
• Wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothing; long hair should be tied back
• Eye protection and safety instruction are included
• The intensive moves at a focused, instructional pace with individual guidance
• You’ll take home several completed cabochons
All materials are provided, and you’ll leave with multiple finished cabochons and the skills to continue exploring lapidary in your own studio practice.
