Tufa Casting

$145.00

The process of tufa casting involves the preparation and carving of the tufa stone, the melting of the metal, and finally, the pouring of the molten metal into the tufa stone mold.  The texture of the volcanic rock creates pieces with a very distinct finish. However, tufa molds typically only last one to two castings before they become unusable.

Navajo jewelry artist Robert Sorrell brings his vast knowledge and passion for tufa casting to Meltdown Studio.  With many years of experience and a stunning collection of  highly sought after one-of-a-kind pieces, Robert knows the tufa process inside and out.  His work can be seen at Bhati Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM.
