Tufa Casting is a traditional technique which is over 100 years old. This direct pour method of casting involves carving a design directly into a soft volcanic stone, called Tufa stone, and pouring the molten metal right in. The tufa stone leaves a unique texture over the surface of the metal.
Our instructor, Robert, Sorrel has been carving tufa stones for decades and is excite to share his tips and expertise.
In this weekend hands-on workshop, you’ll carve and cast several projects which will help you understand the material, get comfortable with many carving techniques, and learn to make carving tools of your own.
